The Children’s Bereavement Network is a non-profit organization that sponsors Camp Live, Laugh, Love for children grieving the death of a significant loved one. This camp is FREE! Because of donations from caring people in our communities, there is no cost to you or your child but donations are welcome. A caring group of trained professionals and volunteers have come together to help children realize that “IN LIFE THERE IS HOPE”. This year Camp Live, Laugh, Love will be
July 23 through July 25, 2021
Camp Nissokone in Oscoda, Michigan
Our goal is to provide a safe environment in which children can explore and express their grief. Grieving is unique for each child and they grieve differently at each stage of development. Camp Live, Laugh, Love works with children and teens ages 7 through 16. At this age, children are struggling with their own self-concept. The death of a loved one creates a huge disruption in their lives and leads them to question their own mortality. They may even feel responsible for the death. Sometimes their grief is seen in their schoolwork, hostility toward peers and family, and avoidance of previously enjoyable activities. They may withdraw; have sleep disturbances such as insomnia, nightmares, refusal to sleep alone or excessive sleep. Somatic problems such as headaches, abdominal pain, and chest pain may also arise. Often, they seem fine but they are possibly hiding their feelings.
At Camp Live, Laugh, Love children learn healthy grieving habits and positive coping skills. They relate to other campers with similar feelings and confide in a buddy (older teen or young adult) who listens to their needs and concerns. This buddy will be with them for all activities for the entire weekend. We have fun activities like rock wall climbing, low ropes, water activities, sports, campfires, and therapeutic crafts which enhance their experience with laughter and fun without guilt. Our camp allows them to express themselves in their way, in their time.
We have a limited amount of space so please submit your application for review as soon as possible as camp fills up fast. All information from both CBN and Camp Nissokone must be filled out completely. Please contact us if you have any questions or need help filling out any of the forms.
We look forward to receiving your child’s application and welcoming your family to CBN. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to accompany their child at registration and to be present for the closing ceremony on Sunday. You will be amazed at the difference it makes when a family shares this unique experience. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Sincerely, CBN Board
